Distribution. This species was previously recorded from Saudi Arabia by Dawah & Abdullah (2009). It was described from Salisbury, Zimbabwe. In the Middle East it has been recorded from Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (Pont 1991; Deeming 2008; Dawah & Abdullah 2009).
Taxonomic remarks. In terms of size, colouration and the development of the frontofacial angle A. lineata is a very variable species and the possibility exists that it may be a species complex. The subspecies Atherigona lineata ugandae van Emden is, however, a distinct taxon.
Biological remarks. It has been reared from sorghum ( S. bicolor), but has also been recorded from other poaceous hosts (e.g., Paspalum scrobiculatum L., Setaria pumila (Poir.) Roem Schult) (Skidmore 1985; Pont 1991; Deeming 2000).
