Comatricha nigra var. brachypus Meyl., Bull. Soc. Vaud. Sci. Nat. 56:71 (1925)

Isotypus: SWITZERLAND. Canton Vaud, Forêt de La Vaux, near Sainte Croix, 1250 m, on dead wood, Sep 1924, leg. C. Meylan, DWM 2273 [one box, K-M001435097], (Fig. 2I).

Notes. The holotype of this species studied by Kowalski (1975: 474), is conserved in LAU (Myxo 009). The material in Mitchell’s collection appears to be a fragment of that specimen, since the same data are in his handwritten notes (Fig. 2J). Mitchell follows Kowalski’s (1975: 474) taxonomic criteria raising this variety to species level, but Nannenga-Bremekamp (2022: 509) maintains it as a variety of Comatricha pulchella (C. Bab.) Rostaf.
