Comatricha anastomosans Kowalski, Mycologia 64(2):362 (1972)
Paratypus: USA. Washington, Coyuse Pass, [Mt. Rainer Nat. Park, 4700 ft elev., on bark], 25 Jun 1970, leg. D.T. Kowalski 10714, DWM 2227 [one box, K-M001435099], (Fig. 2F).
Notes. Kowalski (1972), mentions in “collections examined” when he described the new species, specimen “ DTK 10714” so this is a paratype. In this publication, Kowalski stated that type material (“ DTK 10623”) of this nivicolous species was deposited in three herbaria, and according to Tavares et al. (1997), in UC there is an isotype (UC 1445505). The specimen from UC was studied by Singer et al. (2005) and called “ holotype ”, but as Tavares et al. (1997: 249, 257) had previously stated, the type material retained in Kowalski’s herbarium, now in CHSC, was designated as the lectotype (CHSC 056400), so the material in UC is really an isolectotype. This taxon is currently considered to be a synonym of Comatricha filamentosa Meyl., see Kowalski (1975: 477) and Singer et al. (2005: 495‒496).
