Lectotype, designated here: Ƥ, Turkmenistan: Artchman (ZIN), examined. Tentatively synonymized with Sphex persicus by de Beaumont 1957: 130.

Material examined: 7 Ƥ, 4 3 from Iran and Turkmenistan.

Distribution: Iran, Turkmenistan.

Remark. The lectotype of Sphex hispidus F. Morawitz was collected by Hugo F. Christoph in Central Asia and donated to Ferdinand F. Morawitz.
