Chilota parafricanus: Reynolds & Cook 1976: 151; SAMC; BMNH.

Type locality. WC: Waterfall, Sparre Kloof Farm near Bredasdorp.

Distribution. Species collected in numbers of samples from seven sites, all in proximity of the Cape Peninsula, and slightly distanced Langeberg mountain area. Langeberg Mts: near Swellendam; Duivel’s Bosch, bank of stream and other biotopes; stream above Kolonie’s Bosch; wooded ‘kloof’ above Duivel’s Bosch at ca. 760 m asl; ‘kloof’ above Duivel’s Bosch, at ca. 910 m asl. Swellendam Mts at ca. 900–1500 m asl. Mountains north of Heidelberg. Species ‘raciation’ based on environmental disparity was observed.

Remarks. Type material BMNH 1938.7.1.2610–2626 (labeled as type and paratypes for type series). Paratype SAMC A21706 (‘one specimen from sample housed at BMNH’). Other material: BMNH1938.7.1.2699–2673 marked ‘sp. nov.?’ with variable information on the labels inserted in the tube. Pickford made a distinction between species collected from various sites, labeled them as ‘typical series’ and ‘Langebergen series’. In the table, Pickford (1937: 573) summarized similarities and differences observed in Ch. parafricanus ‘series’ and compared them with the characters of Ch. africanus barnardi, underlining relationships.
