Type locality. WC, Knysna, 7.5 km from Avontuur, south side of Prince Alfred's Pass, wet soil.

Distribution. This subspecies is known from the close proximity of P. photodilus photodilus sites located in coastal-belt of Westen and Eastern Cape provinces. WC: Knysna area, two sites. Outeniqua Mts slopes. Also noted in EC: Witte Els Bosch Mts at ca. 490 m asl and its vicinity, seven sites. Tsitsikamma National Park, forest.

Remarks. ‘ Type material’ BMNH 1938.7.1.955–961. Paratype SAMC A21604. Other material: BMNH 1938.7.1.962–973, 1938.7.1.974–981 (with variable notes indicating ‘subsp. nov’.). HNHM AF/2571.
