Type locality. WC, ‘Knysna Forest, in and under rotten wood, leaves, & c.’ (Beddard 1897).
Remarks. This species is recorded by Beddard (1897), Michaelsen (1900, 1913a, b,) and Zicsi (1998: 63) under the names ‘ photodilus ’, ph. typicus ’, or ‘ ph. castaneus ’ from a number of sites in the south-eastern coastalbelt in Western and Eastern Cape, and KZN. Pickford (1937: 238) under the heading ‘ Parachilota photodilus (Beddard, 1897) ’ gives a diagnosis of the species and a key to subspecies, based on distinctions between the shape of penial setae and the spermathecae. The subspecies P. photodilus photodilus and P. photodilus convolutus are then described in detail. Syntypes: ZMH V-7828, V-7835.
