Type locality. Near Blantyre, Malawi.
Distribution. D. (D.) austeni is described from Malawi and is known from the neighboring north-eastern regions of Central Africa. Known under numerous synonyms names (complete record in Csuzdi: 1996, 2000, 2010: 133).
In RSA, LP: Several sites in Kruger National Park (Hululukulu Pan 21, bank of Limpopo river, area of Bailey Bridge); specimens described as D. pafuriensis and D. krugeri (Reinecke and Ackermann 1977), synonymized by Csuzdi (1995, 2010).
Remarks. Syntypes BMNH 1904.10.5.631–649. Syntypes of Dichogaster pafuriensis Reinecke & Ackerman, 1977: NMSA/Olig.01416. Numerous morphological variations observed. The species' occurrence in RSA might include its natural distribution, which extends to the north-eastern part of Central Africa. Six specimens, possibly paratypes of pafuriensis labelled: ‘ D. pafuriensis, Hululukulu Pan 21 PU 2PT, 76-02-14, H. Menesie leg.’ are in collection of the KZN Museum Oligochaeta collection numbered NMSA/Olig.01416.
