Taxonomy. Phyllotis osgoodi Mann, 1945, “en los alrededores de Parinacota, Arica y Parinacota, Chile.”

Taxonomy of P. osgoodi as species or subspecies of another Phyllotis is in need of additional research. Monotypic.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality in NE Chile.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 84-135 mm, tail 80-110 mm, ear 20-28 mm, hindfoot 24-29 mm; weight 27-57-5 g.

Osgood’s Leaf-eared Mouse is small, with buffy brown dorsum and pale neutral gray venter. Tail is equal to head-body length, auditory bullae are of regularsize, and interorbital region is posteriorly extended. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 40, FN = 72.

Habitat. Altiplano at elevations of ¢.4500 m.
