Taxonomy. Oryzomys scotti Langguth & Bonvicino, 2002, Morro dos Cabeludos (= Morro de Cabeludo), Goias, Brazil.

Cerradomys scotti is sister to C. akroai . Monotypic.

Distribution. E Bolivia (Santa Cruz Department), C & E Brazil, and Oriental Chaco of Paraguay.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 125-181 mm, tail 141-198 mm, hindfoot 27-37 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Dorsum of Lindbergh’s Rice Rat is grayish, buffy brown, similar to head. Venter is grayish, with hairs having gray bases and white tips. Mystacial vibrissae are long but not surpassing ears. Tail is long, bicolored, and hirsute. Hindfeet are large and entirely covered by white hair. Skull is moderately large (greatest skull length 30-3-36-1 mm). Palate is long and wide, with complex postero-lateral palatal pits recessed in deep palatal fossae. Mesopterygoid fossa is perforated by long and wide sphenopalatine vacuities through presphenoid and basisphenoid. Alisphenoid strut is present. Palatal excrescences are very developed. Incisors are opisthodont, and molars are pentalophodont, with mesoloph reduced and mesolophid reduced or absent. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 58, FN = 70-72.

Habitat. Open highlands of Cerrado, as “campo limpo” (grasslands), “campo sujo” (grasslands mixed with shrubs), “campo cerrado” (shrublands), “cerrado sensu stricto” or “pampa arbolada” (dense shrublands), and “veredas” (open humid grasslands, with large buriti palms, Mauritia flexuosa) and more forested areas, such as gallery forests, at elevations of 250-1180 m.
