Taxonomy. Cerradomys vivoi Percequillo, Hingst-Zaher & Bonvicino, 2008, Parque Zoobotanico da Comissao Executiva do Plano da Lavoura Cacaueira, 6 km E of Itabuna by road, Bahia, Brazil.
Cerradomys vivoi is monophyletic, nested in a clade containing C. subflavus and C. goytaca . Monotypic.
Distribution. Bahia, Sergipe, and Minas Gerais states, E Brazil.
Descriptive notes. Head-body 127-160 mm, tail 153-200 mm, hindfoot 30-36 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Dorsum of Vivo’s Rice Rat is orange grizzled with brown, and head is grayish. Venter is whitish or yellowish. Mystacial vibrissae are long, reaching middle of ears or surpassing ear tips. Tail is slightly bicolored. Hindfeet are narrow and long, covered by hairs with brown bases and white tips and hairs entirely white. Skull is heavily built, large and robust (greatest skull length 30-7-35-4 mm). Palate is long and wide, with complex and broad postero-lateral palatal pits recessed in deep and narrow palatal fossae. Mesopterygoid fossa is perforated by long and wide sphenopalatine vacuities through presphenoid and basisphenoid. Alisphenoid strut is absent. Incisors are opisthodont, and molars are pentalophodont, with well-developed mesoloph and mesolophid. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 54, FN = 62.
Habitat. Forested habitats of Cerrado and Caatinga biomes and disturbed areas of Atlantic Forest.
