The abdominalis species-group

Tergite 1 with apical lobes widely separated by distinct emargination; tergite 2 strongly modified, with deep basal sulcus. Species included are B. abdominalis (Aubé), B. belfragei (LeConte), B. floridana (Brendel), B. intermedia (Brendel), B. shawnee Chandler sp. n., and B. ulkei (Brendel) . This group is restricted to eastern North America, with four species typical of the Atlantic and eastern Caribbean coastal salt marshes, and two non-coastal species widespread in the eastern United States.
