Genus Gelanes Horstmann, 1981

Gelanes is a Holarctic genus with 15 species in the Nearctic region, including Mexico (Horstmann 2013b; Khalaim & Ruíz-Cancino 2017, 2020), and 19 species in the Palaearctic region (Khalaim & Blank 2011; Kim et al. 2013; Khalaim 2017b; Khalaim & Tereshkin 2019). Eight species were recorded from South Korea (Kim et al. 2013) and two species from China (Sheng & Sun 2014).

Eight species of Gelanes occur in Japan (Khalaim 2017b): G. clypeatus (Horstmann), G. cuspidatus Khalaim, G. protritus Kim & Lee, and five species listed below.

Species of the genus are parasitoids of xyelid sawflies ( Xyelidae: mainly Xyela spp.) on coniferous plants in Europe (Khalaim & Blank 2011) and North America (Horstmann 2013b).
