rosea

Ampullaria rosea Spix in Wagner, 1827: 3, pl. 4, fig. 3. Type material —formerly ZSM but probably lost (Fechter 1983: 221). Type locality —“In aquis Brasiliae australioris”.

Remarks. Spix illustrated rosea as a species of Ampullaria, but Wagner (1827: 3, tabulae explicatae), in revising the work for publication, doubted this placement and suggested its placement in Bulimus Scopoli (suppressed by ICZN Opinion 475), in which genus it was subsequently placed by others, e.g. Philippi (1852a: 74) and Martens (1857: 209). Suggested as possibly a young Borus oblongus (Müller), by Alderson (1925: ix), now Megalobulimus oblongus (Müller); Strophocheilidae Pilsbry or Megalobulimidae Leme (Bequaert 1948: 58; Bouchet & Rocroi 2005: 267; Simone 2006: 214; Wade et al. 2006: 596).
