Type locality —[no locality given; “Pardana”; “Java” (Mousson 1849: 60, in publication title)]. Distribution — Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, Burma / Myanmar, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, doubtfully China, introduced to Guam, Hawaii, Palau (Brandt 1974: 52; Cowie 1995: 64; Low et al. 2013: 56; Tan et al. 2013: 135), eradicated from Palau (Cowie 2002: 169).
Remarks. Variety of conica Wood, teste G.B. Sowerby III (1910: 58) and Alderson (1925: 78). Synonym of compacta Reeve, teste Gaudion (1880: 27) and of conica Wood, teste Nevill (1877: 7), Preston (1915: 100) and many others (Low et al. 2013: 56). Synonym of gracilis Lea, teste Keawjam (1986: 71, 1990: 11). The name scutata Mousson has priority over all these names. Treated as the valid name for conica Wood, non Lamarck, nec Swainson, by Brandt (1974: 52) and Low et al. (2013: 56), both in Pila . The names sulcata of Adams & Adams (1854: 346) and of Paetel (1888: 482) are here considered incorrect subsequent spellings of scutata Mousson (see also G.B. Sowerby III 1910: 58) and therefore unavailable (Code, Art. 33.3).
