Ampullaria globosa Swainson, 1822 a: pl. 119. Type material —NHMUK [Subba Rao (1989: 58); not found]. Type locality —“rivers of India ”. Distribution —widespread in India (Prashad 1925: 72) and Bangladesh (Jahan et al. 2001: 581).
Remarks. Junior synonym of orbata Perry, teste Pilsbry (1927b: 63), and of ampullacea Linnaeus (as “ ampullaria ”), teste Habe (1964: 49). Widely treated as a valid species, e.g. by G.B. Sowerby III (1910: 58), Preston (1915: 97), Annandale (1920a: 5), Alderson (1925: 70), Prashad (1925: 70), Keawjam (1986: 63), Subba Rao (1989: 58) and Jahan et al. (2001: 581), in Pila . Listed, incorrectly, from Siam and near Bangkok [Thailand] by Martens (1860: 12) and Morelet (1875: 289), respectively.

Remarks. Valid species, teste G.B. Sowerby III (1910: 59), Alderson (1925: 96) and Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 175, in Pila). Subspecies of ovata Olivier, teste Pain (1952: 289, 1961: 14), followed here. Not mentioned by Brown (1980, 1994).
