Lanistes neavei Melvill & Standen, 1907: 6, un-numbered pl., fig. 1. Type material — syntypes: MCZ 173050 (2 spms.), MMUE EE.7815 (1 spm., figured), MMUE EE.7816 (7 spms.) (McGhie 2008: 24), NMW.Z.1981.118.00113 (2 spms.), NMW.Z.1981.118.00553 (2 spms.), NMW.1955.158.01098 (2 spms), USNM 708877 (1 spm., labelled “ paralectotype ” but no lectotype appears to have been designated). Type locality —“Kapopo” [southwest of Ndola, Zambia (Neave 1907: un-numbered pl.]. Distribution — Zambia, southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (Brown 1980: 50, 1994: 60).

Remarks. Valid species, teste G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 67), Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 187), Brown (1980: 50, 1994: 60) and Berthold (1991: 246), who all placed it in Lanistes s . str. The name leavei Kobelt (1909: 79) is considered a lapsus calami and unavailable.
