AFROPOMUS Pilsbry & Bequaert, 1927: 171 . Type species Ampullaria balanoidea Gould, 1850, by original designation.

Berthold (1991: 245) incorrectly stated that the type was fixed by monotypy. The gender of Pomus in Latin, and hence of Afropomus, is feminine.
