World distribution. Argentina, Colombia and Chile.

Chilean distribution. From Tarapacá to La Araucanía region (Fig. 175).

Altitudinal range. From coastal to highland ecosystems (40– 3,750 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. This flower fly species has been recorded visiting different plant species such as Azorella compacta Phil. (Michael Weymann, CSP record); Calendula officinalis L. (Mila Val, CSP record); Encelia canescens Lam (Rodrigo Barahona-Segovia, pers. obs.); E. pectinatus (Peter Lewis, CSP record); Orizoë sp. (Daniel Llavaneras, CSP record); Senecio sp. (Ana María Gutiérrez, CSP record). Other aspects of its biology and ecology remain unknown in Chile.

Conservation status. LC; EOO = 730,507 km 2, AOO = 108 km 2 and 26 localities (or subpopulations).
