World distribution. Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.

Chilean distribution. Only recorded from Metropolitan region (Fig. 28).

Altitudinal range. This species could inhabit Mediterranean ecosystems between 400 and 700 m. a.s.l.

Biology and notes. Sphiximorpha barbipes is here reported from Chile for the first time. This species has been reared from tree holes and bamboo suggesting a saprophagous role (Ricarte et al. 2007).

Conservation status. DD; EOO = 2 km 2 and one locality (or subpopulations).
