Berytus clavipes Hahn, 1833: 135 (non Fabricius, 1775); Berytus minor Herrich-Schaeffer, 1835: 43; Berytus cognatus Fieber, 1859: 205; Berytus fieberi Dohrn, 1860: 105; Berytus commutatus Douglas & Scott, 1865: 158 .

Distribution in Iran. Kordestan (Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011), West Azarbaijan (Ghahari et al. 2010c). General distribution. Euro-Siberian; imported in Canada and USA.

Comment. Another subspecies, B. minor hybridus Horváth 1891, lives in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, southern Russia, Ukraine (Crimea), and Georgia, a region where the nominal form is known too. According to Péricart (1984) the distinctive characters between them are not always well demarcated. Although Péricart (2001) considered the two subspecies valid, their sympatry is highly problematic.
