Remarks. The type locality “Sharon?” and the collector were handwritten by Bytinski-Salz. Although the type locality is unclear, the species is distributed in the Near East and Middle East, as reported by Móczár (1997a) with new records for Israel (Degania Alef) and Syria (without further data). Kimsey & Bohart (1991) included Cleptes rugulosus in the nitidulus species group. Móczár (1997a) provided the description of the male and later Móczár (1997b) transferred this species to the newly established rugulosus group.
