Prodecatoma parodii Brèthes 1922: 125 . Lectotype female, here designated.
Type material. There exist two pins with two (all females) and three (all males) co-mounted cards, each bearing multiple specimens. Both bear the same labels: “S’ Tomé (S’ Fe), 18.I.1920, Parodi/ Prodecatoma parodii Brèthes [both handwritten]/ Proseurytoma parodii (Brèthes) / Lectotype female (black dot), Paralectotypes femalefemale [red].” There is also a slide mount bearing a male and female antenna labeled: “ Prodecatoma Parodii Brèthes m#f#, type!, prudin [illegible] gallas sur Prosopis alba Gris., S’ Tomé (S’ Fe), 18.I.1920, Parodi leg [all handwritten]” and a typed “P 54” tag on the upper right corner (Fig. 5). The lectotype is the left-most female of the top card, top row and is marked with a black dot on the card (Figs. 15, 16). The male-bearing pins share identical data, but has a small label marked, “ Type!” in addition to a blank red paper label. The overall condition of the specimens is dirty and poorly mounted. The specific condition of each paralectotype is as follows: FEMALES—top card mount: all six specimens intact; bottom card mount: both specimens intact except left specimen is missing its antenna beyond the third flagellomere. MALES—top card mount: generally complete except for specimen in top right row missing left antenna and right antenna beyond scape; middle and bottom card mounts: all specimens are intact.
Nomenclature and notes. Upon examination of the type specimens, this species belongs in Proseurytoma Kieffer and Jörgensen (1910), but is not conspecific with the type species P. gallarum Kieffer and Jörgensen. This species was recorded as a gall inducer on Chilean palo verde ( Geoffroea (as Gourliaea) decorticans (Gillies ex Hook. & Arn.) Burkhart) with the gall being round, soft, and 8–14 mm in diameter. Proseurytoma parodii was reported being reared from elongate, fusiform, multilocular, woolly stem galls of Prosopis alba . Thus, both rearings are from Fabaceae . The male is newly reported herein and will be described in a later paper on South American eurytomids.
