Hydaticus riehli Wehncke, 1876
Hydaticus riehli Wehncke 1876: 195; Nilsson & Hájek 2019: 96.
Type locality. Cuba .
Comments. Two species of Hydaticus occur in Cuba: H. bimarginatus and H. rimosus (Megna & Sánchez- Fernández 2016). Morphologically both of these species are fairly similar. Indeed, Roughley & Pengelly (1981) postulated that they are sister species. Another species, Hydaticus riehli Wehncke, 1876 was reported as endemic to Cuba. The status of this species remains however doubtful (Nilsson & Hájek 2019). Despite thorough efforts, we were unable to locate any specimen in the museum in Paris which could belong to the type series. It is noteworthy, however, that several specimens of Thermonectus basillaris of the CZCTR collection in Santiago de Cuba were previously identified as Thermonectus riehli .
