Type: — COLOMBIA. El Valle: Buenaventura, Lehmann 4432 (lectotype B!, designated by Lellinger 1977: 714) .

Distribution and ecology: —Endemic to and apparently rather uncommon on the western Andean slope in Colombia and northwestern Ecuador (Esmeraldas), found along open banks in montane forests at 400–1000 m.
