Type species. Niphargus chilkensis Chilton, 1921 by monotypy.
Essential diagnosis. Head, lateral cephalic lobe entire. Antenna 2, flagellum almost fused. Mandible, palp 3- articulated. Gnathopod 1, carpus longer than or subequal to propodus, palm mainly transverse (oblique in part). Pereopods 3–4, bases linear. Pereopods 5–6, bases dilated. Pereopod 7, basis largely expanded, merus dilated. Uropod 3, outer ramus slender, with 2 articles, second article long.
Remarks. Roropisa was established by G.S. Karaman (1984); however, Stock & Sanchez (1987) and Morino (1991) synonymized it with Victoriopisa .
