Type locality. Beaufort, North Carolina, USA, intertidal.

Type material. Holotype (USNM 67677), paratypes (USNM 42994).

Records. Gulf of Mexico and Sea Caribbean (Maciolek 1985).

Remarks. The name of Prionospio (Minuspio) wireni was introduced to the Grand Caribbean region when Maciolek (1985) synonymized part of her material of Minuspio cirrifera, but she did not give an explanation for the synonymy.
