Opinion: This species does occur in the region but it was originally misidentified.

Justification:

Literature analysis: Thomson & Simpson (1909) named this species Psammogorgia ridleyi but their description is inadequate to determine what genus their specimen represents. Because the figure of the branch fragment shows the polyps are retracted, the surface completely flat, and the coenenchymal sclerites predominantly short, somewhat broad spindles, it seems more likely the species is a Euplexaura . The genus Psammogorgia occurs off the west coast of the Americas and is not found in the broader Indo-Pacific. Kükenthal (1924) included the species as uncertain and Rao & Devi (2003) just listed the species.
