Echinogorgia ramulosa (Gray, 1870)
Bovella ramulosa Gray, 1870): 407 (locality unknown).
Opinion: There is no evidence that this species occurs in the region, and its true identity is unknown.
Justification:
These Indian records are either unconfirmable or seem to be invalid: Thomson & Simpson, 1909: 215–216 (Persian Gulf, Andamans).
Literature analysis: The original description of this species is quite inadequate, and the holotype has never been described, so currently the taxon remain unrecognizable. Ridley (1884) assigned the species to Echinogorgia but Kükenthal (1919) listed the species as dubious. There is no evidence that Thomson & Simpson (1909) looked at the holotype and therefore no proof the species occurs in the region. Rao & Devi (2003) only list the species.
