The specimen located in ZMHB is interpreted as the holotype as Wendeler (1927) stated that only one specimen was seen. The female holotype possesses blue-purple metallic reflections on the elytra rather than deep purple, as stated by Wendeler (1927), a dark abdominal apex, fine abdominal microsculpture, a dark apical band on the mesofemur, a characteristically shaped tergite X and entirely dark forecoxae. Therefore, it is morphologically consistent with a species with known male sexual characters that is distributed from Guatemala to Costa Rica, here considered distinct from Bolitogyrus buphthalmus based on features of the male genitalia.
