Blennidus crassus (Straneo, 1993): Lorenz, 2005a: 262 Blennidus crassus (Straneo, 1993): Lorenz, 2005b: 358 Blennidus crassus (Straneo, 1993): Allegro & Giachino, 2011b: 173

Type locality. Peru, Cordillera Cumullca, 3600 m.

Examined material. HT ♀ and 1 PT ♀ (CSt at MSNM) (complete TS).

Note. No male specimens are known.

Distribution. The two recorded specimens are from the Andes of Northern Peru, Dept. Cajamarca (legit Weyroud 1947). Weyroud probably collected these specimens together with the HT of B. negrei, as the locality and the altitude recorded on the labels are the same. B. crassus does not seem closely related, based on the external morphology, to B. negrei; because of the similar habitus, this species is tentatively included in the group of B. orbicollis, which is restricted to the same geographic area (Allegro & Giachino 2011b), although its aedeagus is still unknown and the attribution to this ‘species group’ will be therefore confirmed only when male specimens are collected.

Habitat. The data reported on the labels of the TS specimens (3,600 m) suggest a preference of this species for the Andean grassland.
