Holotype: ZMB 13254, male, adult, skull, parts of skeleton; “zwischen Kivu-See und Albert-Edward-See, Vulkan Kirungaya Sabinyo, 3.150m” [ Mount Sabyinyo (Virunga Mountains), in 3.150m altitude, between Kivu Lake and Lake Edward], Rwanda; collected by von Beringe, 1902.

Comment: The description is based on a skull and an incomplete skeleton. The rest was lost during transport by a hyena (Matschie, 1903, p. 253).
