Holotype male, from coast below Pico Turquino, Sierra Maestra, Oriente province [at present Santiago de Cuba province], Cuba. [MCZ].

Distribution. Coastal strip at the foot of Sierra Maestra, west of Santiago de Cuba.

Notes. According to Rehn and Rehn (1942) this species is morphologically closer to M. macaca, but this latter inhabits higher areas (approximately 500 – 1000 m) of the Sierra Maestra.
