COMMON NAME. — Red Ruffed Lemur .
CURRENT NAME. — Varecia rubra (É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1812) .

COLLECTOR/S. — Initially collected by Pieter Heinrich Polemann [1779-1839] and donated to the Baudin expedition at Cape Town (Péron 1804a), contra Desmarest (1821: 98) who mentioned both Péron and Lesueur as its collectors. COLLECTION LOCALITY. — Madagascar. COLLECTION DATE. — Before 24 January 1804. SPECIMEN NUMBER/S. — MNHN-ZM-AC-A8126, holotype, intracranial moulding. Specimen missing.
