Platyrhacus sensu Hoffman, 1960, nec Koch, 1847.

52 species, from Costa Rica to NW Brazil.

Comments: the use of Platyrhacus was restricted to an Asiatic group of species by the designation of P. fuscus Koch, 1847 as the type species (Hoffman 1974; 1979; 1999). It has been misspelled in different ways: Platyrhachus, Platyrrhachus, Platyrhachis, Platyrrhacus (Hoffman 1956) .

Some of the genera placed in the synonymy of Barydesmus by Hoffman (1979, 1998) are still largely unknown and their gonopodal structure is still unpublished. It is possible that future work will split this group into more than one genus.
