N. Zeal. Fl.: 41. 1864 – Lectotype (designated here by D.J. Mabberley): “132”, “ Trichilia spectabilis ” – partially coloured graphite sketch (NHM-UK-L-5623-189-M-1), with analysis, drawn at Tōtaranui (Queen Charlotte Sound), South Island, New Zealand, November 1773, by Georg[e] Forster (BM!).
Distribution. – New Zealand (see Braggins & al., 1999).
Notes. – Although Allan (1961: 427) wrote, “Type locality: Queen Charlotte Sound. Type: P, Forst. f.”, no such herbarium (or other) material has ever been found at P (see Nicolson & Fosberg, 2004: 500) and, as no specimen has been found anywhere, the only surviving original material is artwork, of which the excellent field-sketch made by Georg[e] Forster is here selected as lectotype.
