Otostigmus rugulosus var. mertoni Ribaut, 1912

Otostigmus rugulosus var. mertoni Ribaut, 1912: 283 . Papua New Guinea, Aru Islands, Wammer Island. Otostigmus (O.) rugulosus var. mertoni: Attems, 1930a: 144 .

Remarks. Ribaut (1912) distinguished this variety by 1) the tergites neither granular nor spined; 2) coxosternal teeth 3+3, the inner two less distinct than the outer; 3) a very weak median keel; 4) 19 antennomeres; 5) coxopleura with two lateral spines and 6) prefemoral spines of ultimate legs VL 3, VM 2+1, DM 2 and CS 1. These characters allow a possible identification as O. astenus, which makes more sense geographically, however, I have been unable to locate the specimen and as the details given are insufficient for a confident identification it is regarded as a nomen dubium.
