† Colposcenia aliena (Löw, 1881)

Comments. Enderlein (1929), when erecting Colposcenia, provided a lengthy description of a species he had collected in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, which he referred to Colposcenia aliena . No other specimens of C. aliena have been reported from the Canary Islands, and other reports in the literature (e.g. Loginova 1974) are all in reference to Enderlein’s (1929) paper. In none of the collections we have examined, have we found any specimens of C. aliena from the Canary Islands and we conclude that Enderlein’s report was a misidentification, possibly of Colposcenia viridis . As Enderlein’s description is not diagnostic and we have not examined his material, the identity of his material remains doubtful. Our conclusion supports a comment on C. aliena by Gegechkori & Loginova (1990): “The indication for the Canary Islands (Loginova 1974) is erroneous (according to M.M. Loginova’s hand written notes)” (citation translated from Russian).
