TYPE LOCALITY: Guyana, Lower Essequibo, Bartica .

DISTRIBUTION: Guyana, and possibly adjacent Venezuela and Brasil.

COMMENT: A renaming of alleni Sclater, 1895, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1895: 521 (not Thomas, 1880). Cabrera, 1958:253, erroneously listed this species under the genus Bassaricyon as Bassariscus beddardi (SK) .
