DISTRIBUTION: Madagascar.

COMMENT: Beaumont, 1964, Ecolgae Geol. Helv., 57:837-845, placed ferox with the Felidae because of similarities in dental characters. Coetzee, 1977, Part 8:35; Thenius, 1972, Grund. Verbreit. Saugetierk., pp. 205-215, Radinsky, 1975, J. Mammal., 56: 140- 142, and Albignac, 1970, La Terre et la Vie, 24:395-402, placed ferox in the Viverridae . Hemmer, 1978, Carnivore, 1:72, suggested an intermediate position.
