Type-species: Baryssinus marianae Martins & Monné, 1974 (by original designation).

A key to the species of Neobaryssinus and photographs of all the species were recently provided by Berkov & Monné (2010). Here we describe a new species that was reared from Lecythidaceae . Two other species in this genus, N. marianae (Martins & Monné, 1974) and N. altissimus Berkov & Monné, 2010 were also reared from the same plant family.
