NOTES

Lecomte (1925: 189) cited Poilane 2782 and 6869 from Nhatrang and Poilane 9872 and 9723 from Phanrang as the original material. Later, he described Diospyros finetii Lecomte (1928a: 114) based on the same collections, except Poilane 9872 which he no longer cited as one of the relevant specimens and appears to be lost. As there appears to be no reason why Lecomte rejected the earlier epithet, D. finetii is a superfluous name, homotypic with D. nitidula . Three of the cited collections have been located at NY, P and VNM, but we could not find Poilane 9872. Here, we designate the specimen P00721683 from Poilane 2782 as the lectotype because it is the best preserved out of the only two sheets across the three gatherings to have been determined by Lecomte as a type of D. finetii (the other being VNM00015247 from Poilane 6869).
