Genus Ophionea Klug, 1821

Type species: Cicindela cyanocephala Fabricius, 1798 (= Attelabus indicus Thunberg, 1784) by monotypy.

Casnoidea Castelnau, 1834: 40 . Type species: Attelabus indicus Thunberg, by original designation.

A relatively low diversity genus (approx. 20 species), rather homogeneous, distributed in the Southeast Asian and Australian regions. Two subgenera have been described: the subgenus Setophionea Habu, 1961, described O. ishii Habu, 1961 and a few other species on the basis of the occurrence of a lateral seta of the pronotum. However, this has already been synonymized under Ophionea s. str. by Baehr (1996), who objected that this character is very variable within the genus and that it does not justify a subgeneric status. For the second subgenus, Procasnoidea, see below.
