Redhead Goby. To 5 cm (2 in) SL (Balart et al. 2006). Cabo San Lucas (Hoese and Reader 2001), and at least throughout Gulf of California (Sandoval-Huerta et al. 2019). Benthic; depth: 1–21 m (3–69 ft) (min.: Robertson and Allen 2002; max.: Hoese and Reader 2001). We follow Sandoval-Huerta et al. (2019) and divide “ Elacatinus puncticulatus ” into three species, one of which lives in the Gulf of California region. A record from Orange County, southern California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) is in error (Benjamin Frable).
