subgenus Oreocarabus Géhin, 1876
Notes. The species of this subgenus show a peculiar distribution in Macedonia. Carabus hortensis occurs in the northwest and northeast high mountains and has isolated population in the south in the alpine zone of Nidže-Kožuf range. The other two species are primary lowland dwellers. Carabus neumeyeri lives in the valley of the river Drim and the Ohrid-Prespa watershed. Carabus preslii is mainly restricted to the valley of river Vardar, but a northernmost point for it is Šar Planina.
