Hydatophylax nigrovittatus McLachlan 1872 .
The legs are mottled with sharp black distal bands on tibiae and tarsi; the bands on trochanters and femora are less distinct but similarly dark (Fig. 5A). The spots on the head are distinct and large (Fig. 5A). All gills consist of single filaments (Fig. 5B). The pronotal sclerite has a contrasting pattern, with a rather wide light-colored medial band, which continues as a similarly light whitish middle part of the mesonotal sclerite (Figs 5A, 5C). The metanotum bears two fused anteromedial sclerites (Fig. 5C). The cases are slightly conic straight tubes constructed from detritus and fine dark material resembling clay or mud. One or two long plant detrital sticks similar in size to or longer than the case are mounted at the dorsal sides of the case. The length of the tube is up to 2.5 cm (without the stick) (Fig. 5D). This species is minor in number but regularly found in the Trichoptera assemblages on water moss.
