Proechimys quadruplicatus Hershkovitz 1948, Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus., 97: 138.

Type Locality: Ecuador, Napo-Pastaza Prov., Río Napo, Isla Llunchi (18 kms below mouth of Rio Coca).

Vernacular Names: Napo Spiny-rat.

Synonyms: Proechimys amphichoricus Moojen 1948 .

Distribution: N Peru, E Ecuador and SE Colombia east across S Venezuela and adjacent Brazil to the vicinity of Manaus, west of Rio Negro.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as P. quadruplicatus and P. amphichoricus .

Discussion: Placed in goeldii group by Patton (1987); Patton et al. (2000) included amphichoricus . Karyotype has 2n=26-28 and FN=42-44 (Gardner and Emmons, 1984; Patton et al., 2000).
