Ixora coccinea Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 110. 1753.

"Habitat in India." RCN: 897.

Lectotype (Fosberg & Sachet in Taxon 38: 488. 1989): [icon] " Schetti " in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 2: 17, t. 13. 1679.

Generitype of Ixora Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 124. 1929).

Current name: Ixora coccinea L. ( Rubiaceae).

Note: Bremekamp (in Bull. Jard. Bot. Buitenz., sér . 3, 14: 198. 1937) designated the type of Ixora as " I. coccinea L. in Hb. Hermanni (Hb. Mus. Brit.)" but as there are both specimens and drawings present, this is not a single gathering in the sense of Art. 9.15. Corner (in Gard. Bull. Straits Settlem. 11: 185. 1941) stated (confusingly, as these collections pre-date those of Osbeck) "Type: Osbeck’s specimen of the Flora Zeylandica ". Dwyer (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 67: 258. 1980) indicated "131.1 LINN" (a specimen of Rubia, and not original material for this name) as type. Fosberg & Sachet (in Taxon 38: 486-489. 1989) discussed the typification of this name in detail, concluding that no valid typification existed at that point, and designated a Rheede plate as lectotype, accepted here.
