Rhacochelifer peculiaris (L. Koch, 1873)

Chelifer peculiaris L. Koch, 1873: 31–32 .

Not Chelifer peculiaris L. Koch: Tömösváry 1882a: 201–202; Daday 1889a: 121–122; Daday 1918: 2 (misidentification, see Dactylochelifer latreillei).

Not Rhacochelifer peculiaris (L. Koch): Szalay 1968: 66; Harvey 1991: 529 (partim); Kárpáthegyi 2007: 89; Christophoryová et al. 2011b: 37 (partim); Harvey 2013 (partim); Novák 2013a: 125 (misidentification, see Dactylochelifer latreillei); Červená et al. 2020a: 223 (partim).

Remarks: Tömösváry (1882a) reported this species from localities which now belong to Slovakia. However, the presence of R. peculiaris in Slovakia is doubtful (Christophoryová et al. 2011b). The first records of this species from today’s Hungary was published by Daday (1889a), who reported it from three localities: Sóly, Galambos (Galambok?), and Sátoraljaújhely. No further specimens have been subsequently found, and all the later literature citations are from Daday’s publication (Szalay 1968; Kárpáthegyi 2007; Christophoryová et al. 2011b; Harvey 2013; WPC 2023). Reexamination of the material studied by Tömösváry and Daday has found that their specimens belongs to Dactylochelifer latreillii . This is also true for the only recent record of the species (Novák 2013a). As all of the R. peculiaris data published from Hungary (and from other countries of the Carpathian Basin) are the result of misidentifications, R. peculiaris is removed from the fauna list of Hungary.
