DISTRIBUTION: N. Venezuela, W. and C. Colombia to Ecuador and Peru.

COMMENT: Subgenus M.icroryzomys; see Gardner and Patton, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. La. St. Univ., 49:11, 24, who included altissimus in this species; but also see Voss and Linzey, 1981, Misc.
